Beijing tries to contain ethnic unrest

China’s new leadership has its hands full trying to reinvent an economic growth model that is showing signs of breaking down. But another issue is forcing itself on the agenda: Xinjiang and Tibet, the two strategically-located, resource-rich territories that account for almost one-third of China’s landmass but are home to increasingly restive ethnic minorities resenting Beijing’s rule.
