New York City was once a bustling manufacturing center. In the 1940’s more than a million people worked making things in the Big Apple. Now that number has dropped to 75,000. But some high-end New York City manufacturers such as Steinway & Sons, owner of the prestigious piano brand, continue to prosper despite the high costs of operating in the city.
